8th Grade Service Learning

8th Grade Service Learning
By Josie B., 8th Grade Student

For this year's service learning project we worked to maintain the trees and environment that surrounds the school.  On Friday, some students cleaned out the creek and removed trash.  Others pulled weeds and watered the flower beds.  Many students even mulch around the trees.  I planted sunflower and watered the flower seeds.  It was a fun and easy way to give back to our community.

Service learning is important because it teaches community members to care for the environment around them.  Although a lot of people think of the outside when talking about helping our community, it can be done in many different ways.  It is good to help out without expecting a reward in return because it creates a better society.
